The 17th Edition of AEEDC Dubai, the Largest Dental Exhibition in the Region

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority inaugurated on February 5th, 2013 the seventeenth edition of the UAE International Dental Conference and Arab Dental Exhibition (AEEDC Dubai). His Highness Sheikh Hamdan was received by a number of regional and international officials and representatives from 130 countries, in addition to heads of delegation.

Following the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid toured the exhibition area, and explored the latest medical devices, technologies and equipment displayed by over 1000 specialized companies from 70 countries. The tour included visits to company stands unveiling their latest technologies during AEEDC Dubai – which is the largest dental event in the region and third largest globally.

His Highness was delighted by the number of companies participating in the exhibition and the number of dentists participating in the conference which has increased by 10%. He also commented on the tremendous turnout reinforcing Dubai’s role as a regional hub for major international companies who were looking forward to promote their products from Dubai to the Middle East and world markets.

H.E. Essa Al Maidoor, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority praised the outstanding position that AEEDC Dubai has attained, which has become one of the largest and most admired specialized dental conference and exhibition. He was also delighted by the reputation that AEEDC Dubai embraces in the Middle East and the world as it attracts major international companies to display their latest products and technologies in this most specialized medical event.

H.E. Essa Al Maidoor also referred to the continuous annual growth of AEEDC Dubai conference and Exhibition as the number of participants and visitors increase year after year.  Moreover, he referred to the growth in the number of companies and medical institutions who participated in the event which has become an annual destination for manufacturers and specialists in the dental and oral health fields. H.E. also assured that the Dubai Health Authority is keen to support all medical events hosted by Dubai because of their positive returns on different sectors such as: health, economy, commercial, tourism and many others, which also reflects positively on boosting the economy and sustainable development, in addition to improving the skills of the medical team working in the public and private sectors.

Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman of AEEDC Dubai and the Global Scientific Dental Alliance extended his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan for supporting AEEDC Dubai since the 1st edition in 1996, and said: “Our wise leadership represented by H.H. Moreover, AEEDC Dubai represents an outstanding opportunity for all dentists and decision makers from the private and public sectors, to purchase necessary equipment and devices displayed by major international companies. Moreover, AEEDC Exhibition featured 17 national pavilions primarily from: Argentina, Brazil, China, Finland, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States of America, United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

More than 30,000 participants and visitors attend AEEDC this year and the number of companies participated in AEEDC reached 1000 companies from 70 countries. More than 60 thousand room nights were booked and the outcome of the business deals from AEEDC increased by 15% from the previous year. This is largely due to the increase in budgets allocated by GCC countries towards the health and education sectors.

The scientific committee introduced new and diverse concepts for AEEDC Dubai 2013; beginning with the symposium in ‘Rapid Orthodontics’, a fast developing discipline in Dental Orthodontics, a full-day session for Aesthetic Dentistry, the GCC Preventive Dentistry Conference, AEEDC Advanced Specialty Courses, Poster and Oral Poster Presentations, the 4th AEEDC Student Competition and the AEEDC Dubai Awards.

AEEDC Advanced Specialty Courses were held in parallel to AEEDC’s Conference and provided advanced and updated theoretical and methodological approaches. The courses also provided systematic and comprehensive knowledge on current and different theories, enhanced the practical expertise of the dental specialists, built a knowledge platform among qualified specialists across the globe and helped them gain extra CME points.

The 10th Global Scientific Dental Alliance Meeting ‘GSDA’ was hosted again this year with more than 66 heads/presidents of dental associations, societies and institutions. This annual meeting lifts further knowledge, recommendations and scientific concerns. During the meeting, the GSDA provided new ideas and deliberated on vital issues in dentistry, oral health care treatment and continuing education programs.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, AEEDC Dubai introduced this year and for the first time a Robot Patient for student examination. The Robot Patient is the latest diagnostic invention in the world of dentistry and is used to train students for their examination. The robot is supported with a special device that provides assessment to students practice and provides analysis of test results.

Moreover, His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority attended the AEEDC Dubai Night to celebrate the 17th anniversary of AEEDC Dubai Conference and Exhibition. His Highness was accompanied by high ranking dignitaries and more than 1500 international experts in the dentistry field from more than 130 countries.

During the Dubai Night, His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed delivered the “AEEDC International Personality of the Year Award” to Mr. Friedrich Herbst, the Executive Director of the International Dental Manufacturers in recognition of his great achievements in the Dentistry field. His Highness also delivered the “Best Service Organization in the UAE” to Major General Mohammed Al Marri, Director General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai, in recognition of their efforts in facilitating and providing support for the visitors who come to visit Dubai from all over the world.

His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed also received a token of appreciation from the executive board members of the Global Scientific Dental Alliance for his continuous support and patronage of the Dubai Night ceremony for the fourth consecutive year.

On a different note, a GCC Preventive Dentistry Meeting was held during AEEDC presided by 11 representatives from the GCC Health Ministries who gathered to discuss updates of dental diseases in all GCC countries. The GCC health representatives discussed prevention programs and the outcome of their meetings at AEEDC Dubai this year; in addition, they also discussed the vital role of AEEDC Dubai meeting especially in supporting these preventive scientific activities in all GCC.

Visitors and participants unanimously agreed that the 17th edition of AEEDC Dubai exceeded all expectations and was a great success. AEEDC Dubai is organized in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority and it works closely with a number of strategic partnerships such as the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai and is officially supported by the Global Scientific Dental Alliance, the Arab Dental Federation, Executive Board of the Health Ministers Council for Gulf Cooperation Council States, GCC Oral Health Committee, Riyadh Colleges of Dentistry and Pharmacy, Arab Academy for Continuing Dental Education, and International Association for Orthodontics-IAO.
